How To Play
Five Card Draw
Five Card Draw is a popular
draw poker game and is probably the first poker
game that most people learn.
Five Card Draw starts out with
the first two players to the left of the dealer
posting blind bets, the small blind and big
blind respectively. The small blind is equal to
half the lower stake limit and the big blind is
equal to the lower stake limit. The big blind is
also the size of the minimum bet. For example in
a $1/$2 game the small
blind is $0.50 (half the lower stake) and the
big blind is $1.
The blinds are used to get
money into the pot giving the poker players
something to play for which in turn helps to
force the betting. The blinds are considered
live bets the big blind is able to check, raise,
call and fold.
Once the blinds are posted
five cards are dealt to the players that are
seated at the table. The cards are dealt face
down to the players.
Then the first round of
betting starts out with the player that is
seated to the left of the dealer. The players
have the option of calling the bet, raising the
bet or folding.
When the first round of
betting is over, any player that has not folded
their hand can discard up to five cards and
receive new ones in their place. You can also
choose to keep all of your cards and not receive
any new ones.
Following the draw, there is a
second round of betting. As in the first round
of betting, the players have the option of
calling the bet, raising the bet or folding.
When the final round of
betting is over, all players that have not
folded their hand, reveal their cards. The
player with the best hand wins the pot.
When playing five card draw at
Carbon Poker, the joker may be in use as a wild
card. If the joker is being used as a wild card
the players will be alerted.
There are some restrictions to
the use of the joker. The joker can be used as
an ace, to complete a straight, a flush, or
straight flush which is why it is not a
completely wild card.
If the joker is used to make a
flush, it will be the highest card of the flush
not present in the hand. Also, if the joker is
in use, five aces is the best possible hand that
you can get.
