How To
Play Omaha Hi Lo Poker
Omaha Hi Lo Poker is quickly
becoming one of the most popular poker games for
both professional and amateur poker players.
Omaha Hi Lo is played almost exactly like Omaha
Poker. They both follow the same betting and
blind structure. But Omaha Hi Lo Poker is a
split pot game which means that the pot is split
between the winning high hand, and the winning
low hand.
The best high hand is pretty
self-explanatory. It is the best high poker hand
that you can make using two of your hole cards.
To make a low hand in Omaha Hi
Lo you also use two of your hole cards. To
qualify as a low hand your hand can not have a
card higher than an 8. Your low hand also can
not have any pairs.
In a low hand straights and
flushes do not count, so the best low hand
becomes A-2-3-4-5 of any suit. This hand,
especially if it is suited can with the low hand
half and high hand half of the pot. This hand is
known as the wheel.
A low hand is ranked by the
high card. A hand with a high card of a 7, for
example, 3-4-5-6-7 beats a hand that consists of
A-2-3-4-8.
If two players make a low hand
with the same high card, the next card is taken
into consideration and so on. If the two hands
are equal then then pot will be split.
If no low hand has been made,
then the entire pot goes to the winner of the
high hand.
In Omaha High Low Poker a
player can potentially make two hands, the high
and low hands. A player can win both the high
and low halves of the pot if they are holding
the best high and low hand with the same cards.
The pots in Omaha High Low
tend to be large because players bet a lot
trying to win either half of the pot. The big
payouts happen when you win the entire pot, also
known as scooping the pot.
